It's not possible to place event on multiple calendars because calendars may be in different timezones and this would cause a lot of issues with timestamps.
To use category color for an event go to Dashobard -> St. Event Calendar -> General Settings and check field "Use category color for events".

Can I associate a colour scheme to a category or is this only available at the calendar or event level?
